Every team across the five major US professional sports leagues in one dataset — 32 NFL franchises, 30 MLB clubs, 30 NBA teams, 32 NHL franchises, and 30 MLS clubs (with the addition of San Diego FC in 2025 and the Utah Hockey Club / Mammoth in 2024). Each row gives the league, conference, division, home city and state (or Canadian province), home venue, and founding year.

Pro tip: The "founded year" reflects when the franchise was established, not when it joined its current league. The Atlanta Braves trace back to 1871 as the Boston Red Stockings; they joined the National League at its founding in 1876.

About the US Major-League Sports Teams Dataset

The five major North American professional sports leagues collectively employ over 4,000 athletes and generate more than $80 billion in annual revenue. This dataset is the canonical reference of which teams play in which league, where they play, and how theyre organized into conferences and divisions. Several teams (Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton) are based in Canada but compete in US-headquartered leagues — theyre included here for completeness.

Common Use Cases

Fantasy sports apps, sports-betting platforms, merchandise sellers cataloging team-licensed products, brand marketers targeting team fan bases, ticket-resale comparison tools, league-history Wikipedia-alternative sites, podcast and broadcast scheduling apps, and city-level sports tourism data.
