Daily US Gas Prices — Every State (CSV / JSON) | EvvyTools

Every US state's current daily average regular gasoline price

51 rows 6 columns

Today's average retail price for regular unleaded gasoline in every US state plus DC. Data is sourced from AAA — which surveys roughly 130,000 fueling stations every day — and refreshed automatically. Each row also carries the 24-hour dollar and percent change so you can spot the states where prices are rising (or falling) the fastest.

Pro tip: Building a dashboard? Pair this with the Gas Price Tracker tool for live crude oil context — or check the sidebar API link to pull the JSON programmatically.

About the Daily US Gas Prices Dataset

Every row in this dataset is one US state (plus the District of Columbia) with today's average retail price for regular unleaded gasoline. The underlying data comes from AAA, which surveys roughly 130,000 fueling stations across the country every day in partnership with OPIS and Wright Express. The file is regenerated automatically on our side shortly after AAA publishes each morning, so the as_of_date column always reflects the most recent daily snapshot.

What's included

  • state_abbr — the two-letter USPS state code (CA, TX, DC, etc).
  • state_name — full state name.
  • price_usd_per_gallon — today's average retail price for regular unleaded gasoline, in US dollars per gallon, to 4 decimal places.
  • change_24h_usd — signed dollar change versus the previous day's average (negative = cheaper today).
  • change_24h_pct — signed percent change versus the previous day's average.
  • as_of_date — the UTC date the snapshot was captured.

Common use cases

  • Internal dashboards: pipe the CSV into a BI tool (Tableau, Metabase, Looker, Sheets) and build a daily "gas price heat map" with no API key required.
  • News and media: cite a consistent, sourced number when writing about fuel costs, oil shocks, or regional disparities.
  • Fleet and logistics planning: join against route data to estimate current-week fuel costs per corridor.
  • Personal finance content: back up cost-of-living comparisons with real, current data rather than year-old EIA figures.
  • Alerting: diff yesterday's download against today's to auto-flag states where gas moved more than X%.

How current is it?

AAA publishes new daily state averages around 10:15 AM Eastern each day. Our fetcher runs hourly and writes the refreshed CSV as soon as new data is available, so downloads typically reflect the current day's number by late morning Eastern.

Why not diesel or premium by state?

AAA publishes daily state averages for regular gasoline only — diesel and premium national averages exist but state-level breakdowns are weekly (from EIA) rather than daily. If you need state-level diesel, the closest authoritative source is EIA's weekly retail series. We may add a separate "Weekly Diesel by State" list in a future update.

Looking for the interactive version?

If you want charts, a heat map, a personal cost calculator, and live crude oil context instead of a raw download, head to the Gas Price Tracker tool. The tool reads from the same underlying data but visualizes it state-by-state with historical trends.
