Country Flag Emojis — ISO Codes and Unicode Points | EvvyTools

Every country flag emoji with ISO codes, unicode code points, and region

242 rows 6 columns
Honey-Do Tracker — home maintenance for landlords and property managers

Every country flag emoji with its ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 and alpha-3 codes, the underlying Unicode regional indicator code points, and the world region. Includes special flags for England, Scotland, Wales, the European Union, the United Nations, and assorted territories and dependencies.

Pro tip: Country flag emojis are actually pairs of regional indicator symbols (one per ISO letter) that the OS renders as a single flag glyph. Thats why some platforms show the bare letter pairs (e.g. "U+1F1FA U+1F1F8") instead of the flag if they lack the rendering tables — most notably Windows desktops, which intentionally show the letters.

About the Country Flag Emojis Dataset

Country flag emojis are generated by combining two regional indicator code points — one for each letter of the ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 code. When an OS supports the rendering, it composes the two indicators into a single flag glyph. Three subdivision flags (England, Scotland, Wales) use the more complex tag-sequence approach standardized in Unicode 11. This dataset captures both representations.

Common Use Cases

Country-selector dropdowns in registration forms, language and region pickers, i18n libraries, travel and booking apps, news ticker design, dashboard country filters, and any UI that needs to associate a country with a recognizable visual marker.

Column Reference

  • country — country name in English.
  • iso2, iso3 — ISO 3166-1 codes.
  • emoji — the rendered flag emoji.
  • unicode — underlying Unicode code points (regional indicators or tag sequence).
  • region — Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe, Oceania, Antarctica, or International.

Platform Support

Apple, Google (Android, ChromeOS), Samsung, Mozilla, and most Linux distros render flag emojis natively. Microsoft Windows desktop intentionally renders only the letter pairs, not flags, in most contexts (the exception is Windows 11 Notepad and some newer Windows-native apps). Web apps that need consistent flag rendering across all platforms often embed an SVG sprite set instead of relying on emoji.

Disputed and Special Flags

Kosovo (XK) uses an unofficial ISO code and renders as a flag on most platforms. Western Sahara (EH) is sovereign in some maps and contested in others — it has a flag here. England, Scotland, and Wales use a more complex Unicode "tag sequence" approach (not regional indicators) for their constituent country flags. The European Union and United Nations have their own designated flag emojis.
